Description/Job Summary

This position is in the Palo Alto, CA office of Simpson Thacher.  The Litigation Paralegal is responsible for performaing a variety of work during all phases of a case.  This role works under the supervision and direction of attorneys.


  • Assist attorneys with performing records and legal research using various tools, including the internet, Westlaw, LexisNexis, PACER and other media;  summarizing legal documents, due diligence review and related tasks, and indexing of documents
  • Organize and maintain working files and important papers, paper and e-mail correspondence, inter-office memoranda and attorney work product, such as chronologies and legal research
  • Organize and maintain discovery files, such as client documents, documents produced by all non-parties, non-responsive documents, privileged documents, deposition transcripts and exhibits
  • Utilize and manage electronic databases, including Concordance Eclipse, LiveNote Case Notebook, SharePoint and Internet repositories
  • Assist in document review and production, including, coding, Bates-stamping, privilege review and tracking of documents
  • Assist with preparation of court filings and service of court and/or relevant papers
  • Prepare for witness, expert interviews and depositions (includes document/information gathering, exhibit preparation, logistics and coordination of items received from court reporting service companies)
  • Prepare for hearings, client meetings
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills

  • 3 to 5 years of litigation paralegal experience
  • Ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing
  • Ability to proofread for contextual, grammatical and spelling errors
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite
  • Proficiency with Internet research and legal research databases, such as Westlaw and Lexis/Nexis
  • Can organize, prioritize, plan and multi-task work activities in a high pressure environment with attention to details and deadlines
  • Ability to work independently or in a team with limited supervision
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Flexibility to work late and on holidays/weekends, and travel when necessary

Required Education

  • Paralegal Certificate from ABA accredited school and/or B.A. Degree
