Description/Job Summary

The Staffing & Professional Development Coordinator, Private Funds assists with overseeing the professional development of junior associates in the Private Funds East Coast practice under the direction of the Staffing & Attorney Development Manager, Private Funds. Responsibilities include but not are not limited to coordination of staffing, talent engagement initiatives and mentoring.  This role is an integral part of the Legal Talent Team and will support the staffing partners and practice leaders for the department. 

Responsibilities/Duties

Staffing

  • Work closely with staffing partners in the New York, Washington D.C. and Houston offices to help maintain an equitable level of utilization across the department
  • Coordinate opportunities for junior associates to work on a variety of matters while balancing growth opportunities with client needs
  • Maintain a consistency of experiences and equitable distribution of assignments across the practice area
  • Assist Legal Personnel team members with coordination of the rotation system of junior associates among the transactional practices in the New York Office
  • Assist manager with coordination and tracking of junior associate vacation schedules and related coverage

Legal Personnel & Professional Development Support

  • Performance Reviews
    • Ensure that each junior associate has thorough evaluations and developmental objectives
  • Mentoring/Advisor Program
    • Work closely with the Legal Personnel team to pair junior associates with mentors and partner advisors
    • Ensure mentors and advisors are connecting and engaging in dialogue about ongoing professional development goals
  • Engagement
    • Develop a professional relationship with junior associates, including an understanding of professional experiences and objectives
    • Assist with planning a variety of team building events to foster connectivity
    • Serve as a point of contact to provide an active feedback loop between associates, firm leadership and the partners in the group
  • Coordinate regularly with other Private Funds professional service team members (e.g. Director of Practice Technology, Funds KM lawyers, Training & Development Manager) to further practice group initiatives
  • Work on a variety of ad hoc projects as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Experience

  • 3-4 years of relevant experience
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to interact well and build professional relationships while maintaining confidentiality; collaborative approach to working with others of all seniority levels
  • Strong interest and experience in professional development
  • Ability to self-direct, manage multiple priorities, analyze needs and implement solutions
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for both long and short-term projects and responsibilities
  • Must be team oriented, contributing as needed on unexpected projects or requests
  • Proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint and comfortable working in web-based databases/software, e.g. viDesktop
  • Must be flexible to adjust hours to meet departmental needs

Preferred Experience

  • Prior experience in a law firm preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree required
