Description/Job Summary

The Manager of Women’s Initiatives has Firm wide responsibility for helping to support the agenda of the Women’s Committee and Women’s Advisory Council. This role is primarily responsible for assisting both the Chief Legal Talent Officer and Director, Diversity & Inclusion, in managing all aspects of women’s initiatives, as well as general support of broader diversity, equity and inclusion efforts. The Manager will contribute to Firm wide initiatives and special projects, as needed, to advance recruiting, retention, development, and promotion efforts for female lawyers.  As an integral member of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) team, the Manager will be a visible part of the Firm culture and a clear resource for associates for peer-firm trends relevant to gender equity and parity initiatives.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Cultivate and implement initiatives focused on the recruitment, development, and retention of women lawyers consistent with the Firm’s overall goals and strategy
  • Serve as gender diversity subject matter expert; stay abreast of market trends and innovations and recommend and implement programs and policies to further Simpson’s gender equity and parity goals
  • Evaluate internal metrics and industry benchmarks related to pipeline of women lawyers and create reports and presentations as necessary in support of the Firm’s goals to retain and promote women lawyers
  • Provide logistical support for networking events and programs specific to the Women’s Initiative agenda, internally and externally
  • Develop programs and resources specific to underrepresented female lawyer populations, including women of color, out women, first-generation lawyers
  • Identify external programs that would be of interest for female attorneys including business and career development training, professional skills, networking and similar topics
  • Attend and represent the Firm at internal and external women’s programs, conferences, trainings and client events that are often held after normal work hours
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to create programs to increase pool of women in the recruitment pipeline
  • Assist with associate & counsel coaching efforts identifying/sourcing based on needs and fit and making introductions
  • Manage internal and external communications about women’s initiatives, including the website, newsletters and recruiting materials
  • Participate and support the Firm’s Lean In group and relevant programming, activities, and collaborations with Women’s Committee and/or Women’s Advisory Council
  • Work closely with various administrative teams and staffing partners to facilitate caregiver return and reintegration
  • Partner with Director to maintain current statistics pertaining to gender diversity and respond to RFP’s and industry surveys
  • Partner with outside organizations to create strategic alliances enhancing the Firm’s gender programs
  • Support overall diversity, equity and inclusion Firm wide efforts, including DEI programming, affinity groups, Diversity Committee and Diversity Advisory Council initiatives, and any other activities supported by the Diversity and Inclusion team
  • Assist with Legal Recruiting and Professional Development related functions on a limited, as-needed, basis
  • Perform other responsibilities as needed

Required Skills

  • A minimum of 4-5 years post-graduate experience in a law firm or professional services organization
  • Experience and/or familiarity with gender equity and parity practices in the legal profession and/or corporate organizations, highly desirable
  • Prior experience in professional development, marketing, legal recruiting or related area highly desirable
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent collaboration and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and implement solutions as needed
  • Service-oriented mindset
  • Able to effectively work both independently and collaboratively with professionals at all levels
  • Strong judgment and ability to respect, protect, and maintain highly confidential and sensitive information
  • Must be team oriented, contributing as needed on unexpected projects or requests
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with particular emphasis on PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel is required

Required Education

  • Bachelor's degree required 

Preferred Education

  • JD and/or Master's degree preferred
