Description/Job Summary

The Competitive Intelligence Manager is responsible for partnering with the Firm’s Marketing / Business Development leadership to support initiatives that deepen the understanding of the competitive landscape, competitor activity and market trends to provide a vision that aligns activities with overall Firm goals, while supporting the department as a member of the senior leadership team.


  • Supervises the Competitive Intelligence Analyst, and provides ongoing guidance and feedback, corrective oversight, scheduling, recruitment, etc.
  • Advises and collaborates to manage the Competitive Intelligence Team’s workload, provide guidance, and organize training programs to enhance the Team’s professional development
  • Develops and maintains Team workflows to effectively understand and manage Team processes as needs and priorities change
  • Establishes relationships and serves as a liaison internally with stakeholders and other designated individuals, and externally, with vendors
  • Proactively works closely with the Firm’s Marketing / Business Development leadership, to ensure service levels and offerings that support broader Firm competitive intelligence strategies
  • Collaborates with the Firm’s Marketing / Business Development leadership to develop clear processes for engagement with stakeholders and management of project priorities
  • Participates in the development and management of department initiatives in coordination with the Director, Research Manager, and Operations Manager
  • Assists the department Operations Manager to support product testing, evaluation, and ultimately the selection of needed tools and/or cancellation of existing ones
  • Maintains current knowledge of key resources and technologies in various practice areas along with developments in the delivery of research services
  • Recognize the value of professional networking and actively participate in professional associations and online communities
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Skills

  • Minimum of five (5) years Marketing or Competitive Intelligence research experience preferably in a law firm or corporate environment
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience performing data analysis
  • Skilled in planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating the work of others
  • Deep knowledge of legal and non-legal competitive intelligence resources and practices as applied in a business services environment
  • Willingness to exercise considerable judgment and initiative in developing competitive intelligence policies and programs
  • Proficient in developing and implementing policies, services, programs, and resources to meet the immediate and long-range strategic marketing / growth goals of the firm
  • Ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing
  • Ability to identify complex problems, make determinations and implement effective solutions
  • Ability to work independently, determine priorities and coordinate workflows effectively
  • Superior organizational skills, unflagging attention to detail, and demonstrated commitment to the accuracy and completeness of information

Required Education

  • ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library Science or Masters’ of Business Administration
