Description/Job Summary

The Desktop Engineer is responsible for providing escalation user support, acting as liaison to the User Support Team, documenting desktop related procedures and managing special user configurations.  This role will support the management platforms of computer backups, remote support and tracking software. They will also be responsible for helping the team with the firms computer administration with SCCM and application packaging.


  • Provide software support, installation and troubleshooting for Microsoft Office, Google Chrome, Citrix  and other Firm applications, servers and  administrative systems
  • Assist user support Help Desk with escalated  incident resolution and general troubleshooting; respond to incoming calls, pages, and/or e-mails regarding desktop problems for end users and implement corrective solutions
  • Troubleshoot software and OS related issues  with minimal direction, engaging necessary support and escalating system issues as appropriate for NY and branch offices
  • Ensure adherence and compliance to IT processes and standards as they pertain to users’ workflow in Finance, MCO, Records, Litigation Support
  • Test new configurations, software and packages for images and/or deployments, consulting with users and cross-functional teams on hardware and system specifications
  • Maintain documentation on special user configurations
  • Manage and support laptop backup software through Code42. Including troubleshooting user issues and upgrading the backend infrastructure
  • Package basic applications for distribution
  • Accurately document instances  in order to establish guidelines and procedures to assist user support in effectively resolving user issues; source and implement troubleshooting utilities/tools as needed
  • Manage and support the remote control tools (Beyond Trust) used by IT to manage desktops, laptops and home computers
  • Manage and support the laptop tracking software (Absolute) and as necessary lock down lost or stolen laptops to prevent data loss
  • Help with the management of firm computers using SCCM (Config Manager), building Collections; setting Deployments and participate in discussions to make workflows and processes better and faster.
  • Be willing and open to learning new technologies and bring new ideas to the firm
  • Must be available remotely during off hours as needed

Required Experience

  • 4 to 6 years of relevant experience required
  • Ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing
  • Basic math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division
  • Demonstrated mastery of desktop applications and management tools
  • Knowledge of and experience with Windows desktop and server operating systems
  • Knowledge of and experience with Active Directory administration
  • Knowledge of SCCM and PC imaging
  • Strong technical and analytical skills
  • Ability to identify, communicate and escalate system issues and trends as appropriate

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in a large corporate multi-domain/multi-site organization preferred

Required Education

  • Associate’s degree or 2 years college courses or equivalent years of work experience required

Preferred Education

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
