Description/Job Summary

The Business Intelligence Manager is responsible for providing Firm management and other stakeholders with research and data analysis that delivers insight into business performance to be utilized for strategic and operational decision-making, while also supporting the department as a member of the senior leadership team.

Responsibilities/Duties

Strategy

  • Identify Firm Business Intelligence needs and lead the internal business insights function.
  • Provide strategy, direction, and data-based support to drive actionable intelligence through the proactive development of Business Intelligences processes.

Research

  • Track and create research reports against key Firm initiatives and KPIs, as identified by Firm management.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to deliver advanced, value-add and insight-driven analytical solutions that provide actionable insights, business solutions, and recommendations.
  • Monitor and look for ways to improve data quality and gathering processes.
  • Automate data collection and reporting, including recommending products that support Firm goals.
  • Synthesize large amounts of data into meaningful summarized reports to enhance Firm management’s ability to understand the information and make decisions.
  • Provide legal research services to attorneys and staff as needed.

Team lead

  • Supervise the Business Intelligence Analyst and Current Awareness Specialist, and provide ongoing guidance and feedback, corrective oversight, scheduling, recruitment, etc.
  • Advise and collaborate to manage the Business Intelligence Team’s workload and organize training programs to enhance the Team’s professional development.
  • Develop and maintain Team workflows to effectively understand and manage Team processes as needs and priorities change.

Other

  • Establish relationships and serves as a liaison internally with stakeholders and other designated individuals, and externally, with vendors.
  • Participate in the development and management of department initiatives in coordination with the Director, Research Manager, and Operations Manager.
  • Assist the department Operations Manager to support product testing, evaluation, and ultimately the selection of needed tools and/or cancellation of existing ones.
  • Maintain current knowledge of key resources and technologies in various practice areas along with developments in the delivery of Business Intelligence services.  
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of five years Marketing, Business or Legal research experience preferably in a law firm or corporate environment.
  • Minimum of five years of experience performing data analysis.
  • Skilled in planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating the work of others.
  • Business analytics experience utilizing a data visualization tool, such as, PowerBI, or Tableau
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Suite of products, especially, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as SharePoint.
  • Ability and willingness to exercise considerable judgment and initiative to facilitate the leadership of the Firm’s business intelligence program.
  • Proficient in developing and implementing policies, services, programs, and resources to meet the immediate and long-range strategic / growth goals of the firm.
  • Ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to identify complex problems, make determinations and implement effective solutions.
  • Ability to work independently, determine priorities and coordinate workflows effectively.
  • Superior organizational skills, unflagging attention to detail, and demonstrated commitment to the accuracy and completeness of information.and completeness of information

Required Education

  • BS in Statistics, Operations Research, Business Analytics, Marketing or a related field required

Preferred Education

  • MBA or ALA-accredited master’s degree in Library Science preferred
