Description/Job Summary

The Law Clerk/MCO is responsible for performing litigation-related services for the Firm including attending court calendar calls, service of papers and service of legal documents on other firms and witnesses. This role also assists attorneys with the preparation and filing of documents.


  • Review documents for conformity to court rules; docket important documents and calendar important dates accordingly
  • Impart expert procedural advice and coordinate court-related services by working with attorneys and staff across all departments and offices
  • Coordinate court-related services by working with attorneys and staff across all departments and offices
  • Draft legal procedural documents for review by attorneys
  • Conduct procedural research in all jurisdictions
  • Perform manual and electronic filing pursuant to local court practices and using state and federal electronic filing systems nationwide
  • Deliver documents to local Courts and law offices
  • Selectively bill time as authorized by the partners
  • Confer with outside vendors for retrieval of legal documents and other court related services, including obtaining apostles for international documents
  • Keep attorneys and staff apprised of latest electronic guidelines
  • Support jury services request by both clients and attorneys
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills

  • Superior knowledge of NY and federal rules of civil procedure
  • 1 to 2 years of relevant experience required
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with attorneys and staff about complex legal procedures
  • Ability to manage multiple/simultaneous requests, assign priorities and achieve solutions within deadlines
  • Knowledge of the basic litigation docketing and calendaring process
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a demanding and fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work well independently as well as effectively within a team

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of various court websites, docket searching and document retrieval databases (ie. PACER, NYSCEF, e-Dockets, CourtAlert; Westlaw, and Lexis/Nexis)
  • Knowledge of filing procedures in local New York state and federal courts

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s degree is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Some law school coursework preferred
