The Manager, Alumni Engagement reports to the Chief Business Development Officers and works closely with Partners and the Business Development team to develop, execute and support strategic plans to leverage alumni relationships for business development and to create a strong sense of global community between alumni and the Firm.
Responsibilities/Duties
Collaborate with the Business Development team, Partners, and select practice and industry groups to implement strategies and action plans to proactively engage with the Firm’s over 4,000 alumni and help develop long-term relationships
Proactively follow job changes of alumni and proactively identify potential business development opportunities, developing strategies to effectively engage Partners in alumni-related initiatives
Identify ways in which alumni can network with one another, as well as with Firm representatives to support their own professional and business development goals
Conceptualize and organize Firm-hosted alumni events, including focused practice group/regional events, CLEs and webinars
Become a resource for associates and alumni and remain an active participant in practice group meetings/events, training programs, recruiting, and other events
Coordinate with each of the Firm’s 11 offices and the Legal Personnel Department on exit interviews to onboard departing associates to the Firm’s alumni program
Work closely with the Firm’s Recruiting and Legal Personnel Departments on alumni-related initiatives, including identifying job opportunities for alumni and associates
Follow trends in alumni programming and outreach at other law firms and professional services firms
Oversee production of the Firm’s alumni newsletter and other related communications
Manage the Firm’s alumni database to improve and ensure accurate data quality, as well as the Firm’s online alumni portal, LinkedIn alumni page and other online avenues, and determine uses of social media to effectively engage alumni
Assist with other projects and initiatives identified by the Chief Business Development Officers
Perform other duties as assigned
Required Experience
Minimum 3-4 years of demonstrated experience in a law firm environment
Experience cultivating and managing client relationships
Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment working with Partners, multiple seniority levels and departments
Collaborative and a team player
Creative and forward-looking thinker with the ability to conceptualize ways to effectively engage alumni
Ability to interact well, engage others and build professional relationships while maintaining a high level of customer service, diplomacy and discretion
Ability to proactively identify and analyze problems, develop solutions and deliver results
Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Strong project management and organizational skills; demonstrated ability to prioritize and balance competing demands and meet deadlines in a fast-paced professional environment
Strong attention to detail
Flexibility to adapt to all work situations and work varied hours
Ability to make decisions and remain calm under pressure
Preferred Experience
5-6 years working at a peer level firm preferred
Prior experience developing or supporting an alumni program in a legal or professional services environment strongly preferred
