Description/Job Summary

The Capital Markets Knowledge Management Lawyer (KML) is responsible for helping to develop the practice group’s knowledge strategy and implementing projects to meet the practice group’s knowledge needs. With the support of the Knowledge Department, this role develops best practices to increase effectiveness and efficiency within the practice group and works closely on a day-to-day basis with attorneys to ensure adoption.  The KML will leverage their legal expertise and understanding of the needs of practicing attorneys to create and organize research materials, standard forms, model documents, matter profiles, other data compilations, substantive know-how and precedents.

In support of that work, this role also supports the practice group’s thought leadership and business development efforts by actively monitoring and sharing market developments and trends in the law or business environment, identifying areas to develop for both the practice group and new and existing clients.

Responsibilities/Duties

Knowledge Strategy

  • Partner closely with Knowledge Department functions including Practice Innovation & Technology, Research & Intelligence and Data Analytics to identify and implement appropriate solutions for the practice group
  • Coordinate with the Data Analytics and Practice Innovation teams to evaluate and pilot legal technology, artificial intelligence applications, and client-facing applications

Knowledge Bank & Matter Management

  • Create, develop, organize, update and maintain forms, precedents, checklists, data points, and other work product and substantive content for the practice group, ensuring such content is continuously up-to-date, accurately recorded, and leveraged by attorneys
  • Work with attorneys to ensure closing report forms fully and accurately capture matter descriptions, categorizations and transaction details and are completed timely
  • Periodically review matter information, highlight trends and make recommendations for template form changes

Thought Leadership

  • Monitor and inform the practice group of important legal and market developments; support the writing and publication of external client alerts on such developments
  • Assist in identifying issues and developments of relevance to key clients
  • Author and publish research on legal developments or new areas of law relevant to the practice group

Business Development

  • Assist and coordinate with Business Development on preparation of pitch-books and relevant materials for business development, as needed
  • Coordinate requests between partners and Business Development in compiling research on existing or prospective clients, as needed
  • Monitor and disseminate information relating to client preferences and compliance protocols, including updates and changes into transaction templates, forms, due diligence forms, and transaction guides

Training & Mentorship

  • Work with the Firm’s training personnel to identify practice-related training needs of the practice group; assist with development of materials, as needed
  • Mentor associates by providing them with best practices and assisting them in locating precedents, practice-related knowledge resources and other work product

Collaboration

  • Collaborate with other KMLs in the Firm and attend Knowledge Department meetings to facilitate the sharing of best practices and knowledge
  • Provide other knowledge support to the practice group as may be assigned by the practice group partners, Chief Knowledge & Innovation Officer, or KM Director

Required Skills

  • Minimum of five years of Capital Markets experience
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant legal practices and documents
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Self-starter and highly motivated
  • Strong customer service skills and prompt response time to incoming requests
  • Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to solve problems, both for technical issues and in situations involving collaboration with attorneys and non-legal staff/departments
  • Demonstrated good business judgment and analytical skills

Required Education

  • J.D. or equivalent

Salary Information

The estimated base salary range for this position is $250k to $280k at the time of posting. The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. This role is exempt meaning it is not overtime pay eligible.
