The Conflicts Analyst is responsible for assisting in the management of procedures related to new business for the firm and working closely with Conflicts Attorneys and the members of the team on the facilitation of review, analysis, identification, processing of requests and application of business rules to search criteria necessary for the Firm to determine whether or not it may accept new clients and matters under prevailing ethical rules, applicable law and internal policies.
Responsibilities/Duties
Directly interface with Conflict Attorneys, analyzing conflict check inquiries for Firm-wide new business and conflicts of interest
Implement the Firm’s restricted list procedures and quarterly audit
Assist with establishing and monitoring ethical screens and prepare and obtain conflicts waivers
Monitor and review new intake forms with an understanding of commercial and litigation matters ensuring submitted party information is correct and complete
Gather information from internal and external databases and from attorneys involved to conduct factual research on prospective clients or involved parties and to determine the status of relevant matters and in order to establish whether a conflict of interest exists and provide related risk assessment accordingly
Respond to inquiries regarding conflicts and other engagement risk issues; communicate findings to Partners and Conflicts Attorneys with accuracy, confidence and professionalism; clear matters for particular practice groups should conflicts issues require resolution
Ascertain the nature of an entity’s role in a particular matter; research corporate history of clients and parties affiliated to new client work
Review client engagement letters, new matter requests and confer with Firm attorneys to determine whether conflicts of interest exist with respect to prospective representations
Process revisions of client and matter records; ensure database entries are updated with appropriate and valid information
Work closely with staff members in the department, as well as lawyers, paralegals, secretaries and other levels of management
Assist with utilization of research applications
Help with other duties related to the resolution and clearance of the conflicts of interest issues; perform projects and other duties as assigned
Required Skills
4 plus years’ experience working for a law firm, corporation or financial institution in a Conflicts Analyst capacity
Understanding of the type of work undertaken by a large global law firm along with an appreciation of commercial and legal terms
Knowledge of ethical rules and risk management requirements governing conflicts of interest and conflicts resolution processes
Strong understanding of legal relationships and the nature of representations undertaken
Must be extremely organized and have excellent issue tracking, follow up, and resolution skills
Ability to workand communicate effectively with all levels of personnel in a global market with tact and diplomacy
Able to learn and utilize specialized internal conflict checking software and multiple software applications such as Capital IQ and World-Check One as well asworkflow processes of various departments
Ability to analyze and summarize conflict situations, articulate potential issues clearly and concisely, and suggest resolutions to attorneys as required
Implement both logical and common sense understanding to carry out a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, and diagram forms
Exerciseindependent judgment and decision making in order to handle multiple functions in a fast-paced, detail oriented work environment
Proven organizational skills with the ability to provide a quality, accurate, and efficient written work product in a high-volume environment
Ability to manage complex projects and assignments while meeting tight deadlines
Proven follow-through skills and the ability to troubleshoot
Flexibility to work additional hours as needed
Preferred Skills
Previous experience in law firm conflicts and intake
Advanced knowledge of conflicts and experience with conflicts resolution with overall understanding of a corporate law practice

Salary Information
The estimated base salary range for this position is $130k to $150k at the time of posting. The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. This role is exempt meaning it is not overtime pay eligible.
