Description/Job Summary

The Corporate Training & Development Manager is responsible for furthering the Firm’s objectives of training and developing associates through substantive assignments and a robust curriculum of course offerings.  The Training & Development Manager works closely with the Training and Staffing Partners, Practice Group Heads as well as the Professional Development team.  The Training & Development Manager is the primary resource for the professional development needs of practice group’s associates.Each Corporate Training & Development Manager collaborates with the Attorney Development Committee and relevant Training Partners to develop curriculum that applies to relevant corporate associates.  Curriculum includes new associate training, mid-level associate training, practice-group training, finance training, and skills training.


  • Design and implement all formal training programs within relevant corporate groups, in consultation with Attorney Development Committee, Training Partners, Practice Group Heads, and Chief Legal Recruiting and Professional Development Officer
  • Keep abreast of legal developments and collaborate with Attorney Development Committee members, as well as Training Partners, to identify training needs and develop new programs, initiatives or improvements
  • Liaise with Attorney Development Committee, Training Partners and Professional Development team for training new associates during STBReady, the firm’s comprehensive new associate orientation
  • Collaborate with team of Training Managers to develop, plan and implement firm-wide skills training, including finance, communication skills, negotiation skills, management skills, etc.)
  • Innovate new methods of training, including podcasts, learning bursts, and other forms of experiential training
  • Coordinate with global offices to ensure seamless participation in training programs by all associates and to implement office-specific training programs
  • Work with Recruiting, Pro Bono, and Diversity teams on cross-group initiatives
  • Support relevant Assigning Partners with high level resource allocation and productivity analysis, including recommendations for balance staffing needs and client service considerations with associate career goals, practice group benchmarks and/or workload
  • Teach training programs to junior associates on firm integration and various skills topics
  • Serve as a resource to associates to answer questions and disseminate information about training, including on an individualized basis
  •  Work with CLE team to ensure accreditation of relevant programming and compliance support

Required Skills

  • 4 years of transactional practice experience in a large law firm
  • Excellent communications (written and oral) and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent collaboration and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively with professionals at all levels
  • Ability to command the respect of attorneys
  • Strong judgment and ability to respect, protect, and maintain highly confidential and sensitive information
  • Knowledge of CLE rules

  • Experience with law firm professional development
