Description/Job Summary

The MCO Court Clerk is responsible for performing litigation-related services for the Firm including filing and submitting papers to various courts and agencies, and the service of legal documents on the other firms. This role also assists attorneys with the preperation of documents.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • File documents with state and federal courts in NYC and Long Island and obtain copies of documents as assigned
  • Perform related searches utilizing the internet and various software programs
  • Utilize online Court search systems, PACER and court specific computer terminals to obtain docket sheets
  • Retrieve legal documents from courts as per request
  • Serve interlocutory documents on other law firms
  • Obtain certificates of good standings for attorneys
  • Obtain apostilles from NY Department of State
  • Bill time as authorized by the partners
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in MS Office programs such as Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Ability to manage multiple/simultaneous requests, assign priorities and achieve solutions within deadlines
  • Demonstrated understanding of New York State and Federal Court websites
  • Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a demanding and fast-paced environment
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with a diverse groups of legal professionals, attorneys and staff regarding legal procedures
  • Ability to work well independently collaboratively in a team environment
  • Ability to use discretion with sensitive and confidential information
  • Strong attention to detail and self-motivated to produce accurate, timely and complete work product
  • Ability to travel frequently and independently utilizing mass transit

Preferred Skills

  • 1 to 2 years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of filing procedures in local New York state and federal courts
  • Working knowledge of E-Dockets docketing and Electronic Case Filing (ECF) systems
  • Licensed Process Server a plus
  • Notary a plus

Required Education

  • Associate’s degree is required
