Description/Job Summary

The Current Awareness Specialist position is responsible for creating and managing a centralized current awareness program that includes, but is not limited to, litigation, client, news, legislative tracking, and other legal alerts designed to advance and improve the Firm’s timely knowledge of relevant events.  


  • Creates and proactively manages alerts / newsletters using Lexis NewsDesk, Westlaw,  Bloomberg and other relevant products
  • Proactively partners with KM, Marketing, and Dockets to support and centrally manage alerts / newsletters based on their needs; includes continuous monitoring and refinement
  • Engages with new hires to provide desired current awareness support by adding them to existing alerts / newsletters or creating and managing new alerts / newsletters
  • Partners with Practice Groups to ensure that current awareness needs are being met
  • Devises complex searches that produce highly relevant results
  • Effective utilization of an alerting platform, such as Lexis NewsDesk, to create and manage news alerts
  • Adds relevant analysis or summaries to alerts / newsletters as requested
  • Collaborates with department team members to handle current awareness requests and recommends, formulates, and implements appropriate search strategies upon request
  • Keeps up to date on changes and developments in current awareness resources, features, and functions and proactively implements changes to ensure the Firm’s current awareness program is providing the highest value to requestors
  • Recognizes the value of professional networking and actively participates in professional associations and online communities
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Skills

  • Minimum of three (3) years research experience preferably in a law firm or corporate environment
  • Experience in the analysis and summarization of research results to create easily digestible summaries of findings
  • Knowledgeable of basic legal concepts, areas of law and research resources
  • Strong interest in current events and a curiosity to remain informed
  • Capable of searching major news resources utilizing complex searches designed to return the most relevant results
  • Experience leveraging an alerting platform, such as Lexis NewsDesk, to create and manage news alerts within a corporate environment
  • Proficient in searching major legal research resources including, but not limited to, Westlaw, Lexis, Bloomberg, BloombergLaw, Wolters Kluwer, Lex Machina, Hoover's, D&B, Capital IQ, Factset, and the various SEC filings search resources
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite products particularly the utilization of SharePoint to integrate content

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s degree

Preferred Education

  • ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library Science
